Lip Treat: Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Colour Moisturising Lipstick in Red Door Red

Morning! It’s a cool, rainy morning over here and I’m already feeling excited because it’s almost the weekend. Can you smell it approaching already? 🙂

I’m in a cheery mood today and here’s my lipstick pick for this Thursday morning.

Name: Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Colour Moisturising Lipstick in shade 02 Red Door Red

Colour: A dark red

Texture, scent and finish: Goes on smoothly like a lip balm, highly moistursing and pigmented, smells yummy because it contains Shea Butter.

Lasting Power: I love this lipstick because it stays on your lips for a long time without drying it out! It’s not completely transferproof, but it stays on your lips for at least the next 4-5 hours 🙂 It works for me and that has to count for something because I drink lots of water at work each day!

Has anyone tried lipsticks from Elizabeth Arden? I’d love to hear what are some of your favourites 🙂

Lip Treat: Tarte Amazonian Butter Lipstick in Watermelon

Hola, here’s my lip colour for the week! Introducing the Tarte Amazonian Butter Lipstick in Watermelon!

Colour: A coral shade, similar to fruit punch and does indeed bear resemblance to watermelon juice, like its namesake.

Texture: Smooth, like a tinted lip balm. Goes on a bit sheer, and is moisturising. I apply two layers.

Scent: A peppermint scent that fades off quickly once you apply it.

Packaging: Cardboard tube with floral prints. Pretty!

Wear time: As this is a sheer lipstick, you would need to reapply after meals and after you drink from a mug. Doesn’t affect me too much because I tend to drink water through a straw now during the day.

Where: Purchased from Sephora, at SGD $26.

Pros: I like the fresh colour and balm-like sheer texture. It makes for easy wearing on casual days!

Cons:

– It has a peppermint scent, but the scent goes away once you apply it.

– It is not long-lasting, because of its sheer texture.

Verdict: I enjoy using this lipstick because I love the fresh colour and the light texture. It is not long-wearing, but I still like it nonetheless!

Repurchase: Yes.

Note: All items are purchased by me, unless stated otherwise.

Face-Off: Bioderma vs Garnier Micellar Cleansing water!

I must have gone through what must be my 3rd or 4th bottle of Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micellar Water, and for good reason. It’s been loved and celebrated by Makeup artists and beauty lovers worldwide over the past few years and I am no exception. The only catch? Bioderma does seem a wee bit pricey, if you were to compare it to other regular drugstore brands which can be half or even one-third of the price of Bioderma.

In this case, you get what you pay for. I’ve learnt many a hard lesson when I’ve tried several other drugstore brands, most of which broke me out in sensitive-skin rashes or irritated my sensitive eyes and left a stinging sensation. The search for a Holy Grail makeup remover was frustrating and I was about to throw in the towel when I finally decided to give Bioderma a go. I did, and I never looked back.

Recently, I heard that there was a dupe for Bioderma, and that is the Garnier Micellar Cleansing water and I gave it a try. To my disappointment, Garnier’s Micellar water stung my sensitive eyes, even though it did remove my face and waterproof eye makeup fairly easily. I will use this to remove my facial makeup until I finish the whole bottle, and then it will be tossed. I am going to stick with Bioderma as my go-to wipe-off makeup remover.

Comparison time!

Price/value for money: Garnier is cheaper than Bioderma, at about half the price. A 400ml Garnier costs about SGD 20, whereas a 500ml Bioderma costs about SGD 40.

Effectiveness: Both can remove your facial and waterproof eye makeup easily.

For sensitive skin: Bioderma is a lot more gentle on my eyes when I remove my waterproof eye makeup. Garnier stung my eyes! I was so disappointed by this.

Overall: Bioderma is more pricey than Garnier, but I will stick with Bioderma because it is effective and doesn’t sting my eyes. Garnier is effective and a good alternative, if not for the issue of it stinging my eyes.

If you don’t have sensitive eyes, go for Garnier. Otherwise, I would recommend that you stick with Bioderma. Tried and tested : ) !

Disclaimer: Both items were purchased by me.

Til next time,

N

Lip Treat: Tarte LipSurgence in Escape

Introducing Tarte’s LipSurgence, in the shade named Escape.

Colour: A rose-pink shimmer, subtle and sheer tint. This can be layered to build colour.
Texture: Glides on smoothly, has hydrating oils to nourish lips. It feels like you’re wearing coloured lip balm. But it can feel a little oily if you apply more than one layer.
Scent: A peppermint scent.
Packaging: A twist stick lip tint. You twist the bottom part.
Wear time: The colour wouldn’t last for a long time, especially if you drink from your mug. But the hydrating oils still remained on my lips after I drank some water.
Where: Purchase it at Sephora
Repurchase?: I don’t recall the price, but this is quite a pricey lip tint to me. This wouldn’t be a priority repurchase for me.

Note: All items are paid for by myself. No items in my blog are sponsored, unless stated otherwise.

Merry Christmas!
Love, Neri.

Etude House Lock ‘n Summer Proof Any Cushion Foundation!

I attended a friend’s wedding, and I decided to try out the Etude House Lock ‘N Summer Proof Any Cushion Foundation, in W13, Natural Beige, for the first time! I recently bought it during my Korea trip in June. Here’s my take on it:

locknsummer

Packaging: Cute, white round compact, with a mirror and sponge
The sponge is on a holder, and does not touch the foundation part. Hygienic!

Foundation comes in a sponge form, you use the sponge to press the foam sponge and the foundation goes onto it!

Foundation is refillable, great idea.

Colour and scent: Lovely, light floral scent! I love it.
Coverage is medium, good if you don’t major blemishes to cover. Natural look.

Tried it, didn’t like it: Biore UV Perfect Milk SPF 50+ Sunblock Review

20140625-002842-1722229.jpg

Hello, I will be reviewing Biore’s UV Perfect Milk SPF 50+ today. It is from the same range as the Bright Face (pink bottle) and Moist Face Milk (purple bottle). This, or so I’ve heard, is a popular everyday sunblock. They have oil control properties and helps brighten skin tone.

However, when I first tried the blue bottle, I was stunned. The lotion smelt strongly of alcohol! Almost like an astringent. The alcohol fumes stung my eyes a little too. The lotion was lightweight, but felt a little oily at first and took about 3 minutes to be absorbed into my skin. I was disappointed, to be honest, I was expecting this range to smell awesome, not be laced with an alcohol scent. However, I’ve read tons of glowing reviews and next to none have complained about the alcohol scent. Maybe I’m a bit too sensitive to it and others didn’t notice the alcohol? You decide.

What are you using as your sunblock now? Share with me! : )

Claim to fame: Oil control, lightweight, portable, SPF 50.
Texture and scent: Light creamy texture, with regular sunblock scent + alcohol scent.
Availability: Watsons and Guardian Singapore for about SGD $18.

What I think: Alcohol scent too strong, takes a while to be absorbed. Was expecting a gentle floral scent. : (

Repurchase?: Not likely to repurchase.

What are your favourites?

With love,
Neri

Can’t live without: My Holy Grail items! Review

Hello, here are some of my Holy Grail items! I have sensitive skin, and sometimes I break out in a rash. But Avene saves the day for me : )

Avene Skin Recovery Cream, 40ml: Use this for dry, irritated and reddened patches and it’d save you from the itch! The cream is quite smooth and rich, I would use it after I cleanse my skin. Not to be used with a moisturiser, and not a daily lotion, because this is a treatment cream, hence the name “Skin Recovery”. Works like a charm!

Clinique Even Better Dark Spot Corrector, 50ml: My MUST HAVE item. It evens out skin tone, brightens complexion and lightens dark spots caused by the sun or by scarring. I’ll post another separate post for this when I’ve the time 🙂 but this helped lighten a dark pimple scar a beautician left me with. Lifesaver.

Bioderma Sensibio Micellar cleanser: Great for removing makeup and for use everyday. Wipe off with a cotton pad! Good for sensitive skin like mine.

Avene Eau Thermale thermal spring water spray: Handy for hot summer days : ) Calms irritated skin.

Dior Lip Glow lip balm: Changes colour according to your body pH level. The packaging is so beautiful, and that’s also why it is pricey : ( I’m trying to find an alternative for this! Any suggestions?

Bourjois Eyeliner: Brush type, this eyeliner lasts all day for me, even in Singapore’s humidity : )

Tried it, didn’t like it: K Palette 24hr 1 Day Tattoo Eyeliner in SB101 Review

After hearing reviews about the K Palette 24hr 1 Day Tattoo WP Eyeliner in Superior Black 101, I decided to give it a go. But a 24 hours, 1 day tattoo? I think not. It lasted only 5 minutes for me. Perhaps I have slightly oily lids (sensitive combination skin) and the humid weather in Singapore is a factor too, but I was disappointed by the eyeliner’s performance.

Within 5 minutes of walking outside, the eyeliner smudged onto my top part of the eyelids.

The item’s claim to fame: thin felt-tip brush, waterproof, smudgeproof

My verdict: Disappointing performance, probably better suited for dry climates!

Repurchase?: No, I would not repurchase. 20140623-175947-64787224.jpg20140623-180103-64863122.jpg
